Severe Turbulence Forces Diversion of Salt Lake City–Amsterdam Flight
Emergency landing in Minneapolis sends 25 passengers to hospital
A Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-900 on a flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam encountered severe turbulence approximately 40 minutes after takeoff, prompting an emergency diversion to Minneapolis.
The aircraft dropped about 2,300 feet in seconds, causing unrestrained passengers and service carts to strike the ceiling and injure 25 individuals, including crew members.
Emergency responders met the flight on arrival and transported those affected to local hospitals for evaluation, with all subsequently released.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating, and Delta has pledged continued support to passengers through its care team.
