Amsterdam has begun installing hundreds of miniature staircases along its iconic canals in a bid to help cats and small wildlife escape the water safely.

The €100,000 initiative, driven by concerns from animal rights advocates, aims to reduce accidental drownings and promote urban biodiversity.

City officials say the project reflects Amsterdam’s commitment to humane and environmentally conscious urban planning.
