KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has finalized long-term financial commitments to purchase millions of tons of sustainable aviation fuel from newly constructed European bio-refineries. The massive capital outlay is a strategic necessity to maintain the viability of the Schiphol hub model in the face of increasingly punitive European taxation on conventional fossil-based jet fuels.
