A traffic accident on the A12 highway between Arnhem and the German border resulted in four injuries, including that of the wrong-way driver, on the evening of the incident.
The collision involved three vehicles and occurred at approximately 22:10 local time when police received multiple reports of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction in the Duiven area.
Shortly thereafter, emergency responders were alerted to the accident.
Among those injured was a family traveling in one of the vehicles that ended up in a ditch; the mother and one of her three children were transported to a hospital with injuries that are currently unspecified.
Additionally, the driver of another vehicle involved in the accident sustained injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The wrong-way driver, a 53-year-old male from Didam, is suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as initial tests indicated potential substance use.
He remains hospitalized and will be interrogated once his condition permits.
The circumstances surrounding his potential detention are presently unclear.
The incident prompted the temporary closure of the westbound lanes of the A12 as emergency services responded to the scene.
