Exceptionally low Rhine water levels are forcing inland shipping operators to cut cargo loads sharply, pushing transport costs between the Port of Rotterdam and Germany’s industrial heartland to nearly triple and potentially reducing German economic growth by zero point three percentage points this year, according to ING analysts.
