22-Year Prison Sentence Demanded for Daughter in 'Snapchat Murder' Case
Prosecution seeks severe penalty in high-profile murder case involving father and daughter in Netherlands.
The Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands has demanded a 22-year prison sentence for a 22-year-old woman, Dalissa H., accused of conspiring with her former partner to murder her father in the village of Wouwse Plantage, located in West Brabant.
Her accomplice, Jeroen L., aged 37, was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this year for the same crime.
According to the prosecution, both individuals planned and executed the murder together, an allegation that Dalissa H. denies.
The victim, a 58-year-old man, was brutally killed in March 2023 after being lured to a remote area in Wouwse Plantage.
Reports indicate he suffered a skull fracture and was repeatedly stabbed, ultimately losing a significant amount of blood, leading to his death before medical assistance could arrive.
In initial statements to the police, Dalissa H. claimed that her father had been attacked by someone he had met.
During his funeral, she expressed her affection for him, referring to herself as "his princess," leaving attendees unaware of her potential involvement in his violent death.
Investigators soon focused on Jeroen L., with whom Dalissa H. had an illicit relationship.
A witness reportedly saw his vehicle leaving the crime scene shortly after the murder.
Subsequent police investigations uncovered hundreds of Snapchat messages exchanged between Dalissa H. and L., discussing the details of the murder plot.
Evidence also emerged revealing that she had been searching for condolence cards prior to her father's death.
At the courtroom proceedings in Breda, Dalissa H. was unable to satisfactorily explain her actions, prompting the prosecutor to question her motivations.
She testified that her father exerted excessive control over her life, instilling fear in her through strict rules and threats of violence.
"I had to be home by a certain time.
I had to turn on my phone location, send a message.
I was not allowed to eat at a friend's house.
I always had to eat at home," she allegedly stated.
During her detention, there were reports that she had told fellow inmates that she had instructed L. to murder her father.
Testimony from these inmates described her demeanor as emotionally detached, claiming she did not display any grief over her father's death.
In a related case, evidence found in an underground container at L.'s residence contained clothing with blood traces from the victim.
Prosecutors indicated that L. had ordered a large knife under a false name just days prior to the murder.
L. has consistently denied murdering the victim, asserting that he discovered his father-in-law dead and claimed the blood on his clothes was from pulling the knife from the body.
The presiding judge dismissed this explanation as "utterly implausible," indicating a strong belief that both defendants acted in concert.
The proceedings against Dalissa H. were previously delayed due to a change in her legal representation.
A subsequent hearing was held recently, though it remains unclear when the verdict will be issued.
